Pinnacle Winter Series #2 – Regional Swiss stage

16 teams will be competing in the Regional Swiss stage of the Pinnacle Winter Series #2, with eight qualification spots to the main Swiss stage available. The list of competitors comprises a variety of experience and skill levels, from rising challengers to established veterans.

Spirit join the Pinnacle Winter Series #2 after a busy winter break that has seen the former top-30 team bench Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov and Nikolay “mir” Bityukov from their main player line-up, with the players to replace them to yet to be announced at the time of writing. Given that three core players have remained, it would not be a surprise to see Spirit regain their form and show how competitive they can be in the Regional Swiss stage.

MAD Lions will be debuting their new line-up, which saw the addition of Michał “MICHU” Muller and Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev over the winter break, at Pinnacle Winter Series #2. MAD will be hoping to relive their past glory with this revitalised player line-up and the Regional Swiss stage will be the first true test for the team.

00 Nation have struggled in recent times with an abysmal string of results in 2021 that ultimately led to the team acquiring Marcelo “coldzera” David and two others in the hopes of a better match record in 2022. “Coldzera” joins 00 Nation after a short but unsuccessful stint with Complexity, who despite the high calibre of players on the team, failed to produce meaningful match results.

Pinnacle Winter Series #2 – Main Swiss stage

Having been a regular attendee at Pinnacle Series tournaments, Dignitas make a return for Pinnacle Winter Series #2, joining the tournament at the Main Swiss stage. The team are on a slow incline in the world rankings, achieving a peak rank of #22 in 2021, and given that they have made no changes in almost a year to their team and have secured an extension for Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg, they are in a prime position to break out in 2022.

After finishing as the runners-up at Pinnacle Winter Series #1, Apeks have continued to impress with their new player line-up which consists of Asger “AcilioN” Larsen, Tim “nawwwk” Jonasson, Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad, Hugo “chawzyyy” Gunther, and Martin “STYKO” Styk. The team almost came away as Pinnacle Winter Series #1 champions but fell short against K23. Despite this setback, they will be a team to watch once again at the Pinnacle Winter Series.

The last team we will look at in the Main Swiss stage will be Pinnacle Winter Series #1 champions, K23. The predominantly Russian team pulled off a surprise upset at Pinnacle Winter Series #1 by beating world number five team Heroic 2 – 1 in the quarter-finals. The team currently hold an impressive 77.4% win rate over the past three months and are projected to continue in this form in the Pinnacle Winter Series #2.
