Pinnacle Winter Series tournament format

The Pinnacle Winter Series tournaments will take place in three stages; the first stage will be played as a Regional Swiss stage, the second as a Main Swiss stage, and the third as a single-elimination Playoff stage.

What is the Swiss-system tournament format?

The Swiss-system tournament format is a system that gives all teams a fair chance to progress to the elimination stages of a tournament. It gives teams equally balanced matches against other teams with the same match score and doesn’t eliminate a team from a tournament after two losses, unlike other traditional formats.

The Regional Swiss stage will see 16 teams invited to compete for eight qualification spots in the Main Swiss stage. Each team that progresses into the Main Swiss stage will also be awarded $2,000 of prize money.

The Main Swiss stage will see 16 teams competing, eight from the Regional Swiss stage and eight receiving direct invites. Like the previous stage, eight qualification spots for the Playoff stage will be available. Each team that earns a qualification into the Playoff stage will earn $3,000.

The single-elimination Playoff stage will see 12 teams in total; four teams will receive direct invites to this stage while eight teams will be those that qualified from the Main Swiss stage. For teams that make it past the first round of the Playoff stage, $1,000 will be added to their prize purse while the overall winning team will earn the first-place prize of $40,000.
