BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 | Tournament Overview

The BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 will be the last CS:GO Major before we move over to Counter-Strike 2 later this year. In this guide, we will explain what the event is, which teams are participating, the route to the Grand Final, and who the favourites might be.

What is the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023?

The BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 is one of the most anticipated CS:GO events of the year. With the announcement of CS2 earlier this year, we learned that not only will the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 be the last CS:GO Major, it will also be the only Major of 2023. This raises the stakes massively, as of course every team and player will want to lift up the last CS:GO Major trophy!

The event will take place in Paris, France, with the Challengers Stage happening from May 8 to May 11, before resuming on May 13 until May 16 with the Legends Stage. The Champions Stage will start on May 18, and on May 21, we will know who the last CS:GO Major winner is.

The total prize pool is $1,250,000, with the first placed team taking home $500,000, qualification for both IEM Cologne and BLAST Premier: World Final 2023 later this year. Of course, they’ll also get eternal glory, and will go down in the CS:GO history books as the last Major winner.

Which teams will be at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023?

Through the four different RMR events, 24 teams have qualified for the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. Depending on their RMR results, the teams will be divided into three different groups: Contenders, Challengers, and Legends.

What is the route to the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 Grand Final?

The tournament starts off with the Challengers Stage, in a Swiss System Format. The Contender teams will face the Challenger teams in the first matchups. All matches are best of one (Bo1) besides the final Elimination and Advancement matches, which will be best of three (Bo3). From this stage, the top eight teams will proceed through to Legends Stage, while the bottom eight will be eliminated from the tournament.

In the Legends Stage, we will again see the same Swiss System Format that we saw in the previous stage. This time around the Legends teams will enter the fray, where they will face the Challengers Stage teams in the first matches of this stage. The top eight teams will advance to Champions Stage, while the bottom eight will be eliminated.

This all leads to the Grand Final, where a Bo3 will determine the last CS:GO Major winner!

Who will win the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023?

At the time of writing (IEM Rio 2023 is still ongoing), the favourites to win are Pinnacle Cup Championship winners Heroic (3.760*), followed by current number one G2 Esports (3.810*). Although they had some trouble qualifying for the event, FaZe Clan (5.340*) are considered the third favourite.

Up next are NAVI (5.470*) and Team Vitality (7.330*), who will be hoping to have some home ground advantage. After those teams there is quite a large gap, with FURIA (12.140*) being the highest placed non-European team.

These are the favourites according to our traders, but as this is the last CS:GO Major ever, there is every chance that some teams and players will rise above the rest for a chance at eternal glory. Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, two of the greatest CS:GO players ever, will surely have their eyes set on this one – will they bring more to the table in Paris?
