The IEM Rio Major 2022 is one of the biggest and most prestigious esports events of the year. In this betting guide, we will explain how teams will qualify through IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR, which teams are participating, and who the favourites might be.
What is the IEM Road to Rio RMR?
RMR stands for Regional Major Rankings and they are the final regional qualification tournaments for the IEM Rio Major 2022, all taking place between October 4 and October 9. After the qualification tournaments finish, we will know which 24 teams will be participating at the second CS:GO major of this year, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between October 31 and November 13.
For the European teams, there are two RMR events, IEM Road to Rio 2022 Europe RMR A and IEM Road to Rio 2022 Europe RMR B, both being played in Malta. Through both of these two events, the top eight teams will qualify for the IEM Rio Major 2022, bringing the total of European teams taking part in the major to 16.
There are six spots in Rio reserved for South American and North American teams, who will have to qualify through the Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR, which are taking place in Stockholm, Sweden.
The final two spots are for Asia, for which four teams will take on each other in the Road to Rio 2022 Asia RMR, happening in Melbourne, Australia.
Which teams will be at IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR?
Sixteen teams have qualified for the IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR either through their performance at the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 earlier this year or the Regional Open Qualifiers. Of those 16 teams, only six teams will qualify for the IEM Rio Major 2022. From those six, five teams will start at the Challengers Stage. The event will start with a Swiss system best-of-one (Bo1) format, after which the Elimination and Advancement matches will be played as a best-of-three (Bo3).

Which teams will qualify through IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR?
The one team that will definitely qualify is Team Liquid, especially if Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskis keeps performing how he currently does. I’m even comfortable saying they will top the group.
Another very strong-performing team recently is without a doubt Complexity. After signing their new AWPer Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli back in August, they have steadily been climbing back up the HLTV rankings.
And what would the IEM Rio Major 2022 be without a Brazilian team? Luckily for the locals, the IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR is full of them. The most prominent right now being FURIA, with Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato showcasing some great form on the server as of late.
After those three, it becomes a bit trickier as there are a lot of contenders but few spots. Imperial, with two-time Major winners Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo and Fernando “fer” Alvarenga, will put everything on the line to play in front of a home crowd. With their experience, I can see them qualifying.
With the prospect of playing in front of thousands in Rio de Janeiro, I see the remaining spots being taken by a Brazilian team, and it’ll be any two of these three teams: paiN, 00NATION (a Brazilian major without Marcelo “coldzera” David would be a shame), and MIBR. But perhaps Evil Geniuses can throw a spanner in the Brazilian party?
