The LCS & LEC are the two premiere franchised leagues in Western League of Legends, we analyse both each week in our LCS & LEC Power rankings.
What are the LEC and LCS?
The League of Legends European Championship and the League of Legends Championship Series are the game’s European and North American domestic leagues.
Each league features 10 teams and is played over two “Splits” (Spring and Summer). At the end of each Split, the top teams qualify for the Playoffs which will decide the eventual champion. The top teams from each division will eventually battle it out in playoffs in hopes of qualifying for the biggest tournament of the year, the World Championships.

LCS 2021 Week 4 Power Rankings & Predictions
Last week I said I wanted to see Dignitas play with no fear or regrets against the top teams. Fortunately, that’s exactly what happened.
The team’s performance has been a pleasant surprise in the last couple of weeks, with the roster picking up wins and entertaining us with bold, aggressive play in the process. Dignitas extended their winning streak to four games with a dominant performance over FlyQuest, but Cloud9 was too tall of an ask - though Max "Soligo" Soong did miraculously steal Baron on his own with a Twisted Fate ultimate.
But the game that secured Dignitas as playoff contenders was their superb win over Team SoloMid (TSM). All five members of the roster had a brilliant game, but it was Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett who stole the headlines - against his former team no less - with a remarkable Baron steal followed up by a Dragon steal just minutes later.
It was a big blow for TSM in what was otherwise a very strong week for the team, who are on the cusp of challenging Team Liquid and Cloud9. The win over 100 Thieves was especially impressive, as Hu "SwordArt" Shuo-Chieh showed his worth with beautiful engages and roams, allowing TSM to dominate the map.
That result certainly stung 100 Thieves who hit their first bump in form last week following a disastrous defeat to Golden Guardians in a bizarre 50-minute match. Though it shouldn’t be a reason to worry just yet - 100 Thieves will likely bounce back next week - it’s certainly a reminder that any team can drop in form.
And that includes Lock-In champions, Team Liquid who haven’t quite looked the same since the season officially kicked off. After an abysmal Week 2 showing, Team Liquid still looked a bit off the pace, with a loss to the ever-tricky Evil Geniuses but then somehow recovered to pick up a monumental victory over league leaders Cloud9.
Following a brilliant piece of play down bot, Team Liquid snowballed into a massive lead but there were encouraging signs for Cloud9 who managed to fight-back and find possible ways back into the game, despite their humongous gold deficit.
What to expect from the LCS 2021
Next week will be all about the top four, with two exciting matchups to look forward to. After winning the tie back in Week 2, we’ll see if TSM can continue their good form to take down Team Liquid once again.
And we’ll see if 100 Thieves can recover with a huge match against Cloud9 awaiting them, as well as an extremely tough test against Dignitas.

LEC 2021 Spring Week 6 Power Rankings & Predictions
Moving into the second half of the LEC, things have been shaken up in the incredibly tight race for a spot in the playoffs.
Astonishingly, Schalke are nosediving in form. After ending G2 Esports’ and Rogue’s undefeated streaks, Schalke now find themselves on a four-game losing streak with defeats at the hands of SK Gaming and Astralis the week before.
Meanwhile, SK finally recorded their first 2-0 week with a tight win against Misfits Gaming, thanks to a monstrous performance from Jenax. The team appears to be slowly clicking and could seriously be dark horses this year.
But the most impressive team last week was MAD Lions, who finally showed what they are capable of with impressive victories over Excel Esports and Fnatic - completing a 2-0 record over the latter which could be crucial in the end-of-Split rankings.
What an awful week it was for Fnatic, who went 0-2 following a bewildering defeat to bottom-of-the-standings Team Vitality. In both games we saw the duality of Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau as his aggression was heavily punished. However, the losses were on the team as a whole, who simply weren’t ‘at the races’ last week.
It was a poor week for Excel too, as they were surprisingly smashed by Astralis in a very one-sided affair. Excel appear to be trying to mix up their playing style and fix their weaknesses, which makes a lot of sense at this point of the season, and there’s plenty of time for them to pull things back.
Meanwhile at the top, G2 and Rogue are still going strong as both recorded flawless 2-0 weeks. It’ll be fascinating to see how they and Fnatic, who I expect will find form again very soon, develop throughout the year.
As for Vitality’s and Astralis’ victories, never say never but it’s probably too late for a playoffs push. Still, both squads will be keen to begin building confidence as the Summer Split will be when the results truly matter.
What to expect from the LEC 2021
Week 6 of the LEC is going to have a couple of tasty battles in the upper half of the standings, which could be crucial in deciding the playoff rankings.
Firstly, MAD and SK, who both impressed in Week 5, will clash in a match that could decide who gets an advantage within the top six, or perhaps even who makes the playoffs altogether.
And then, the biggest game of the season: Fnatic vs. G2. Last time they clashed, Fnatic had been in relatively poor form yet managed to dominate G2 in one of the most impressive performances of the year. G2 will be desperate for revenge while Fnatic will be eager to bounce back from their embarrassing defeats in Week 5, so this match has all the promise of being yet another spectacular watch.
