Suspension of betting at 2016 Australian Open

The following statement clarifies the reasoning behind Pinnacle’s suspension of betting on the 1st Round Mixed Doubles match at the 2016 Australian Open between A. Hlavackova & L. Kubot and L. Arruabarrena-Vecino & D. Marrero.
As a precaution, betting on this match was suspended due to unusual betting activity.
It is not our place to draw any conclusion about the individuals or the circumstances. Pinnacle has been operating as an online bookmaker since 1998 and since that time we have analysed literally billions of bets. The odds on each side were as follows:
- A. Hlavackova & L. Kubot - 193 (1.51) Favourite with implied chance of 63.5%
- L. Arruabarrena-Vecino & D. Marrero +163 (2.63) Underdog with implied chance of 36.5%
Betting Limits (USD)
We opened the match with a betting limit of $100, which changed as follows:
- Increased from $100 to 250 - 21st January 23:05
- Increased from $250 to 500 - 23rd January 01:26
- Decreased from $500 to 100 - 23rd January 10:50
The market was then suspended on January 23rd at 10:59 as a precaution due to unusual betting activity.
The odds at that time were:
A. Hlavackova & L. Kubot –274 (1.36) Favourite with implied chance of 70.6%
L. Arruabarrena-Vecino & D. Marrero +227 (3.27) Underdog with implied chance of 29.4%
No further betting was offered on the match, but all bets placed up to that point were honoured.
