Brian Carlos Castano vs. Jermell Charlo predictions
Brian Carlos Castano |
Jermell Charlo |
31.55% |
68.45% |
One of the biggest fights of the summer is set to take place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas when Brian Carlos Castano and Jermell Charlo face off. No less than four Super Welterweight world title belts will be on the line here, with the winner taking a clean sweep and setting themselves up for a massive year.
With a 34-1-0 record that includes 18 knockout wins, Jermell ‘Iron Man’ Charlo has enjoyed a glittering career as a professional boxer, winning a host of major honours and respected belts. To date, the only man to have defeated Charlo is Tony Harrison, who secured a points win in Brooklyn in December 2018 with the WBC Super Welterweight title at stake.
Charlo had no trouble bouncing back to winning ways and he arrives for this latest challenge on the back of a three-fight winning run. Each of those victories has come inside the distance, with the most recent being an eighth-round knockout over Jeison Rosario in Uncasville. He also gained revenge for that loss to Harrison with an 11th-round stoppage win over him in December 2019. Charlo is currently the 1.442* favourite in the betting.
Castano is currently ranked second in the world and the Argentinian has an impressive 17-0-1 record. The only result that stands between him and a perfect record at this stage was the split-decision draw in his fight against Erislandy Lara in Brooklyn in 2019. That was a fight Castano believed he had done enough to win but he didn’t let the disappointment derail his progress.
He has won each of his two fights since and was last seen beating Patrick Teixeira on points in Indio earlier this year. Castano is the younger fighter who has been more active and arrives on the back of an impressive run of form. This is a leap up in class to what he is used to, but the 2.900* offered in the betting ensures he’ll be popular.

Tyron Woodley vs. Jake Paul predictions
Tyron Woodley |
Jake Paul |
47.64% |
52.36% |
Jake Paul is back in a boxing ring, and he’s back facing a big name in the UFC. The YouTuber has three wins as a professional fighter from three fights. The famous American now aims to stretch that to a perfect four when settling a grudge with Tyron Woodley.
Paul has fought three times and scored three knockout wins against opponents of varied skills. He got off to a strong start when stopping Ali Eson Gib on his debut in Miami, winning inside the opening round. That was followed by a second-round TKO win over Nate Robinson at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta provided the backdrop for Paul’s most recent win, stopping MMA fighter Ben Askren in the first round.
Each of Jake’s previous three opponents had been making their debut in the professional boxing game and Woodley is no different. Tyron isn’t particularly well known for his boxing skills, but he is a sensation in the world of MMA. He’s a former UFC Welterweight champion who defended his belt four times, and he’ll be eager to test his opponent more than he has been in previous contests.
The pre-match betting on this bout available at Pinnacle has Jake Paul priced as the 1.833* favourite but it’s a competitive market. Tyron Woodley can be backed for the upset win at 2.040*.

Eddie Hall vs. Hafthor Bjornsson predictions
Eddie Hall |
Hafthor Bjornsson |
48.21% |
51.79% |
This is billed as the “Heaviest Boxing Match in History” as Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson prepare to face off and settle a big score. Neither man is known to many in the boxing world and neither boasts too much experience as a prizefighter, but they are well-trained, competitive, and hold a desire to make an impact in the sport.
Bjornsson is best known for his role as ‘The Mountain’ in the popular TV series Game of Thrones. He has had only two boxing exhibition bouts previously. He is showing signs of improvement and the belief is that he has the raw talents to compete in boxing if he is looking to take this new career choice seriously. For followers of boxing to take Thor seriously, he will have to beat Hall.
Opponent Eddie Hall has already shed six stone of weight and is looking in tremendous shape ahead of the bout that has been earmarked for September 18, 2021. The former professional strongman shocked fans when he revealed a perfectly chiselled six-pack in a recent training video, and he certainly appears to be taking the shape of a fighter. He has gone from a near 200KG to a trim 158KG and his boxing skills don’t look too shabby either.
This fight may not be one for the boxing purists amongst us, but it will be competitive and it will be exciting. You can also bet on the outcome at Pinnacle. Bjornsson is currently 1.980* to win, with Hall currently trading at 1.877*, which makes him the slight favourite. That’s the only thing that will be slight when these two giants share a ring.

Gilberto Ramirez vs. Sullivan Barrera predictions

*Odds will be available closer to the fight
Another superstar from the Mexican boxing conveyor belt returns to action as Gilberto Ramirez prepares to face Sullivan Barrera in Los Angeles on July 9. Ramirez is the Light Heavyweight who is closing in on Floyd Mayweather’s famous 50-0-0 record. The man from Mazatlan currently has a perfect 41-fight record and is showing no signs of slowing down.
‘Zurdo de Oro’ has won 27 of his 41 fights by knockout, and the 6ft 2½ inch southpaw was last seen in action halting Alfonso Lopez inside 10 rounds. That victory earned Gilberto the NABF Light Heavyweight title, his first major honour since moving up from Super Middleweight. Ramirez has dispatched each of his last two opponents comfortably inside the distance and fans will want to see him complete the hat-trick against Barrera.
Cuban-born Barrera has a 22-3-0 record with 14 wins by KO. Of his three defeats, he was stopped only once, taken out in round 12 by Dmitry Bivol in 2018. Barrera went close to going the distance with the hard-hitting Bivol that evening; however, even if he had made it to the final bell, he would have lost comfortably on the scorecards. Since defeat to Bivol, the 6ft 2inch fighter has beaten Sean Monaghan on points before losing on points to Jesse Hart last time.
With Barrera losing two of his last three fights, one by knockout, it’s plain to see why Ramirez is the hot favourite to win this clash. He is a man showing incredible form, has the skills and speed to control the fight, and his 66% KO average will worry Barrera.
Joseph Diaz vs. Javier Fortuna predictions

*Odds will be available closer to the fight.
American Super Featherweight Joseph Diaz takes on Javier Fortuna in Los Angeles with the WBC Interim World Lightweight title on the line. Diaz is moving up in grade and is looking to bounce back from the disappointment of fighting out a draw with Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in his last fight.
‘JoJo’ went 12 rounds in that clash and felt he had done enough to continue his impressive winning streak but was undone on the scorecards. One judge gave Diaz victory by two rounds, but the other scorers had it at a level 114-114 draw. It was a tight, competitive contest that was difficult to score, with neither man deserving to suffer defeat. A minor setback, but Diaz is good enough to get back on track and grab a 32nd career win here.
Fortuna is the man aiming to put a dent in his opponent’s progress and will feel this is the perfect time to fight Diaz, coming off the back of a draw. Fortuna is a 5ft 6inch southpaw born in the Dominican Republic but fighting out of Massachusetts, USA. He was won 36 of his 39 previous outings, losing two and drawing one.
Of those wins, we’ve seen Fortuna claim 25 by KO, resulting in a 61% KO average. However, he has been on the receiving end of a KO loss, being taken out by Jason Sosa in the 11th round of a contest in 2016. Fortuna has won each of his last three fights and claimed his last two by knockout so is coming into this match with confidence.
As mentioned, this fight marks a step up in grade for Diaz but he has the boxing skills and power to hold his own at this level. He faces a seasoned campaigner in Fortuna, but I believe that ‘JoJo’ will have the ability to stay out of trouble, rack up the rounds, and win quite comfortably.
Adrian Granados vs. Conor Benn predictions
Adrian Granados |
Conor Benn |
10.79% |
89.21% |
Conor Benn is a fighter who has successfully emerged from the shadows of his world-famous father. He is now a contender in his own right, attracting attention due to his speed, power, and determination rather than his surname.
Conor has an eye-catching 18-0-0 record with 12 knockout wins. That gives ‘The Destroyer’ a KO average of 67% - certainly living up to his nickname. The Englishman has learned on the job, driving through the ranks despite a lack of any real amateur experience. He isn’t the typical golden boy of British boxing who went to the Olympics in the vest of Great Britain. He’s a gladiator, suited to the rough and tumble of professional boxing.
The latest fighter to attempt to derail the Benn hype train is American Adrian Granados. The pair dispute the WBA Continental Welterweight title and the man in the away corner will be desperate to cause an upset by beating Eddie Hearn’s star in the promoter’s backyard. ‘Tigre’ has won 21 fights, lost eight, and drawn three. He has managed just one win in his four most recent outings, with two defeats and a draw included in that spell.
The American was knocked out by Danny Garcia, then beaten on points by Robert Easter Jr. He bounced back to beat Arturo Herrera Cario in round two, but that was a fighter with a 9-33-1 record. Granados won’t be fazed by fighting Benn in the UK, but I believe the local fighter is more than good enough to win. Benn will have to remain patient and work his way into this contest. He won’t get things all his own way, but his fitness and relentless aggression will see him through.

Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr. predictions

George Kambosos Jr. |

*Odds will be available closer to the fight.
Teofimo Lopez is one of the most exciting fighters in world boxing and boxing followers will be eager to see him return to action. The 23-year-old American has won each of his previous 16 bouts, scoring 12 knockout wins. That gives him a 75% KO average. He’s currently ranked number two in the world rankings at Lightweight behind fellow countryman Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and that’s a fight fans hope to see made this year.
To have any chance of sharing a ring with ‘Tank’ and becoming the number one Lightweight, Lopez must continue his winning ways against George Kambosos Jr. in Miami on August 14. ‘The Takeover’ enters this bout on the back of an eye-catching 12-round points decision over Vasyl Lomachenko in Las Vegas late last year. That was a career-best for Lopez, coming against one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in boxing today. He entered as an underdog but was fully deserving of the upset win.
However, Kambosos Jr. isn’t a fighter who will be there simply to provide the American with a tough night’s work without ever going close to the win. ‘Ferocious’ is a warrior who knows victory would catapult him up the rankings and closer to Davis. The 28-year-old Australian boasts a 19-fight perfect record with 10 KO wins. He beat Britain’s former world champion Lee Selby via split decision last time, his second in two fights. However, Kambosos Jr. hasn’t stopped an opponent since the summer of 2019, and that’s a worry.
Lopez is the star attraction for this fight, and although Kambosos Jr. is a talent who will pose more than a few problems, it doesn’t look like the Aussie has the power to keep Lopez down. He’s the complete package and that will see him take charge of this bout in the second half.
Carlos Takam vs. Joe Joyce predictions
Carlos Takam |
Joe Joyce |
11.60% |
88.40% |
Joe Joyce makes his long-awaited comeback as he returns to the ring for the first time since stopping Daniel Dubois in November 2020. That win over ‘Triple D’ was a career-best for ‘Juggernaut’ and came as an upset, but the likeable Londoner will hope it’s just the start of his rise to the top. Joyce has won each of his 12 professional fights, claiming all but one via knockout. He is a talented boxer with the skills of a decorated amateur and has a 92% KO average that will worry any opponent.
Joyce is determined to close the gap between himself and the leading names of the division, such as Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Dillian Whyte.
Next on his hit list is Carlos Takam, an opponent who has already shared a ring with some top names. This is a fight Joyce is expected to win but one that will provide him with a severe test at The SSE Arena, London on July 24.
Takam is an experienced African with a 39-5-1 record, including 28 KO wins. He’s a real tough guy who has tested some household names but usually comes up short against the top talent in the division. He was stopped in 10 rounds by Anthony Joshua in 2017, then beaten in eight rounds by Derek Chisora next time out.
Since losing to Chisora, Takam has bagged four wins on the bounce but this fight with Joyce is another step up in class. Joyce possesses power in both hands, as he showed against Dubois. He’ll find his distance early in this fight and start landing punishing jabs that will slow Takam down, then he’ll start marking him up.
