Tokyo Yakult Swallows at Hanshin Tigers predictions

After clinching their first Central League title in 18 years on September 13 following a 10-game winning streak, the Hanshin Tigers are the only team in the Central League to have passed the 80-win mark with 83 in 136 games.

This weekend, they face the defending champions, the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, who have struggled to replicate their success from last season, and are down in fifth place in the Central League with 55 wins in 138 games.

These two teams have met 23 times this season, with the Tigers owning a dominant 16-6-1 record, while boasting the best earned run average (ERA) in the Central League at 2.42 and a starting ERA of 1.77.

The numbers are stacked in the Tigers’ favour, and with pitcher Shoki Murakami leading the team with a 1.68 ERA and 134 strikeouts, Hanshin will be expecting to win.

Yomiuri Giants at Yokohama DeNA BayStars predictions

The Yomiuri Giants are fourth in the Central League with 68 wins, but face a stern test this week when they host the Yokohama DeNA BayStars for a Climax Series spot.

The 69-win BayStars have not won since September 20, and were beaten 6-0 by Yomiuri in their last matchup. Yokohama currently sits one spot above Yomiuri in the standings, but they trail the Giants in key categories, with an on-base percentage (OBP) of .248 compared to .254, and 104 home runs to 163.

The Giants have also won 13 of the 22 meetings between the two teams this season, and will be looking to improve that record in this series.

Fukuoka Softbank Hawks at Orix Buffaloes predictions

The Orix Buffaloes secured their 15th Pacific League title with a 6-2 win over the Chiba Lotte Marines on September 20.

The Buffaloes have won eight of their last 10 games, and are on a six-game unbeaten streak to sit at the top of the standings with an 81-47-4 record. They face the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks this week, who sit 17 games back with a record of 66-66-2.

The two teams are tied at 11-11-1 in their 23 meetings this year, but the Buffaloes will be keen to improve that record, particularly with pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto leading the league with a 1.26 ERA and 158 strikeouts. Orix slugger Yuma Tongu has also impressed this season with a batting average (AVG) of .307.

It looks like it could be a close game, but all the numbers give the Buffaloes the edge.

Chiba Lotte Marines at Nippon-Ham Fighters predictions

The Chiba Lotte Marines have a record of 63-63-5 and are tied for second place in the Pacific League with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, having played three fewer games.

The Marines will be looking for a win in a crucial three-game series this week against the Nippon-Ham Fighters, who are at the bottom of the Pacific League standings with a record of 57-77-1.

The teams have met 22 times this season, with the Marines having won 13 of those games, although there is little to choose between the two in certain categories. The Marines have a .239 AVG and 94 home runs, compared to the Fighters' .231 and 94. Nippon-Ham have an ERA of 3.06, which is better than the Marines’ mark of 3.37.

The Marines are ranked higher than the Fighters, but are not in the best form, having won just three of their last 10 games. They may find it difficult to turn that around in this series.
