Serbia won their qualifying group, which included Portugal and Republic of Ireland, without losing any of their eight matches. Since claiming independence in June 2006, Serbia have participated in the World Cup on three occasions but are yet to progress past the group stage.

Dragan Stojković’s side have been drawn in Group G, along with five-time champions Brazil plus Switzerland and Cameroon.

World Cup 2022: How will Serbia fare in Group G?

Serbia look a good bet to make it to the knockout stages for the first time in their history, especially when you consider their recent form.

Stojković’s side were unbeaten in their last five Nations League matches, including a 4-1 home win over Sweden and a 0-2 away success in Norway.

Serbia’s last group match with Switzerland is likely to be crucial and they will be seeking revenge, after losing 2-1 to them via a last-minute goal from the Swiss four years ago.

World Cup 2022: An analysis of Serbia’s squad

A lot of the focus will be on Serbia’s attacking threat, especially Fulham’s Alexander Mitrović – who is Serbia's all-time leading scorer.

Fellow frontman Dušan Vlahovićalso has an excellent goal record for his country, with the Juventus ace bagging eight goals in his opening 16 appearances for Serbia.

Ajax playmaker Dušan Tadić will captain the team, while Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savićcould play a key role in midfield.

World Cup 2022: What tactics will Serbia use?

Serbia often play with a 3-4-1-2 formation, with Tadić playing in the number 10 role behind the two main strikers.

They have also used Mitrović as the lone striker in a 3-4-2-1 system, with Stojković intent on playing with three centre-backs.

World Cup 2022: Is there value in Serbia’s odds?

With Brazil clearly the strong favourites to win the group, Serbia do look like good value to join them in the round of 16. They are currently priced at  2.180 (+118)* to do this.

They look to have more firepower than both Switzerland and Cameroon and that could prove crucial in what looks like a tight group.
