World Cup 2022: How will Brazil fare in Group G?
As one of the favourites to go all the way in Qatar, Brazil should finish top of Group G, although there will be no easy games in a group that also contains Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon.
Brazil are no strangers to facing the first two of those teams, as they also locked horns with Serbia and Switzerland during the group stage of the 2018 World Cup, and although they beat the former, they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Swiss.
It could be a similar story this time around, but Brazil will expect to take a minimum of seven points from their three group matches, which should be enough to see them top the group.
World Cup 2022: An analysis of Brazil’s squad
Brazil squads are traditionally awash with attacking talent and that is certainly the case heading into this year's World Cup, with Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar, Real Madrid ace Vinícius Júnior, and Manchester United's latest big-money signing, Antony, among the world-class options at Tite's disposal.
However, it is not just going forward where Brazil have an abundance of talent, as there is quality all over this squad, including in goal, where Liverpool's Alisson is expected to get the nod ahead of Manchester City’s Ederson.
Experienced captain Thiago Silva will once again marshal the defence at what will be his fourth World Cup, while Manchester United duo Casemiro and Fred, as well as Liverpool's Fabinho, are key parts of the team's midfield.
World Cup 2022: What tactics will Brazil use?
Brazil tend to operate in a 4-2-3-1 formation which appears to be the best way for Tite to get the most out of his attacking talents.
The back four and the two defensive midfielders – more often than not Casemiro and Fred – provide the protection for the four attacking players in front.
Tottenham's Richarlison has tended to lead the line up front and if he recovers from injury could well be Brazil's main goal threat in Qatar, after netting eight goals across his last six international appearances.
World Cup 2022: Is there value in Brazil’s odds?
Brazil have reached at least the quarter-finals at each of the last seven World Cups and given they will have one of the most talented squads in Qatar, it would be a surprise if they don't reach at least that stage again.
There is certainly value to be had in backing Brazil to win the World Cup, as they will head to Qatar unbeaten in 15 matches, since their Copa America defeat to Argentina. Having also gone through qualifying for the finals without tasting defeat.
However, Brazil have not made it beyond the semi-finals of a World Cup since they last lifted the trophy in 2002, so the value bet may be for A Seleção to reach the semi-finals, which is currently priced at 2.280 (+128)*.
