Meet the favourites

Colombia has proven to be a tough contender in beauty pageants and it is no different this year. Having opened at 5.44 and currently at 3.40, the Colombian model, Andrea Tovar, who is currently studying Industrial Design and Photographic Image Production, is Pinnacle’s odds-on favourite to win the crown. She has some big shoes to fill, though, after last year’s two-minute-long coronation of Miss Colombia, before host Steve Harvey realised he had announced the wrong winner.

Second place is a tie between Miss Brazil and Miss Peru. Currently at 9.74* the Latin American candidates lost some ground since opening at 7.69, but are neverthelss seen as the strongest competition to Andrea Tovar. The stunning 21-year-old model, Santana, is the first black Miss Brazil in 30 years and an advocate for diversity due to the bullying she experienced for her afro look as a teenager.

At the mature (for beauty pageant standards) age of 26, the gorgeous Peruvian Valeria Piazza seems to have her way with international competitions. Having won the Miss Model of the World 2014 in China, she is now vying for the coveted crown.

Miss Mexico, Kristal Silva, is the only candidate after odds-on favourite with Miss Bolivia, whose odds shortened since opening. At 7.17* at the time of writing, the Pinnacle bettors are showing strong preference towards Mexico.

Miss Belgium, Stephanie Geldhof, dropped from fourth to fifth place (10.33*), followed by Miss Bolivia, Antonella Moscatelli at 10.91*. The Belgian beauty is one of the youngest contestants in this year’s competition. With Belgium yet to win a Miss Universe title, ignore the 19-year-old stunner at your own peril.

Predicting the Miss Universe Final 2016 winner

Dazzled by the beauty and unsure which lady to bet on? Predicting the Miss Universe winner among 85 beautiful ladies is definitely no easy feat. For that reason, we took a look at past winners and key statistics to determine the best pick.

Predicting the winner based on age

26 3

Most of the Miss Universe beauty queens were crowned at the age of 18 and 20, which makes Miss Belgium (19) priced at 10.33* – the youngest among the top ten - a good bet for this year’s Miss Universe crown.

Predicting the winner based on Google searches

Betting on Miss Universe has never been more unpredictable. Whereas normally we see a few participants dominating the bettors’ preferences with no more than four contestants priced at odds less than 10.00, Pinnacle's opening pricices involved a whopping 10 constantans at odds under 10.00. Things changed significantly in favour of Miss Colombia and Miss Mexico, but are they really the most popular candidates?

To investigate this further, we looked at the number of Google searches to determine the most popular contestant ahead of the coronation night.

Miss Belgium might have the advantage of age, but does not seem to be particularly in demand on the world’s most popular search engine.  At the time of writing, Google seems to agree with Pinnacle's Miss Universe market, indicating Miss Colombia (3.40*) as the most popular search among Pinnacle’s top 10 favourites to win the Miss Universe competition.

Whether you go for the odds-on favourite or your own instinct, you will find the best Miss Universe odds online only at Pinnacle.
