Fans have been eagerly anticipating the final season of Game of Thrones for almost two years since season 7 finished in August 2018. Since the last episode of season 7 aired, countless questions have been left unanswered. One of those questions is now available to bet on in Pinnacle's Game of Thrones betting market. Who will finally sit on the Iron Throne as the series reaches its conclusion? Read on to find out more.
Game of Thrones: An overview
HBO’s biggest success story in recent years has been Game of Thrones - David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ TV series adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Renowned for complex narratives and fascinating plot twists, the much-loved fantasy drama is reaching its epic conclusion. We will finally get the answer to the pivotal question everyone has been wondering – who will win the Game of Thrones and sit on the Iron Throne.
In just six feature long episodes, the fate of the seven kingdoms will be decided in what is sure to be an epic battle between the living and the dead as they battle for total supremacy.
As captivating as the reworking of Martin’s series of novels has been, bettors can now get more involved with Game of Thrones and bet on potential outcomes at Pinnacle – Bran Stark (2.490*), Jon Snow (2.950*) and Daenarys Targaryen (4.180*) are the current frontrunners for the “Who will sit on the Iron Throne at the end of season 8?” market.
However, a case can be made for plenty of other potential candidates that Pinnacle are also offering, and knowing Game of Thrones is notorious for severely unexpected plot twists, it would be naïve to completely rule anyone out at this point.
The Iron Throne: Is it anyone’s for the taking?
Currently, there are 31 options to choose from in Pinnacle’s Game of Thrones betting market and who will be the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms at the end of season 8 is anyone’s guess. That said odds of 115.190* for Theon Greyjoy and 153.110* for Resurrected Ned Stark (currently the least likely candidate) shows that some potential candidates will have a much better chance than others.
Here are some the contenders:
Intriguingly, the recently anointed “Three-Eyed Raven” Bran Stark is currently the favourite to sit on the Iron Throne. After meeting the former Three-Eyed Raven in a cave beyond the wall in season 4, Bran discovers that not only can he control animals as a “warg” but also use the magic of “Greensight” to be able to see the past, present and future – a skill that only a Three-Eyed Raven can use.
When the former Three-Eyed Raven was killed by the Night King in his cave, Bran assumes his title and is rescued by Benjen Stark and taken to safety. Theories point towards Bran being able to use his magic abilities to control animals and time to help him win the Game of Thrones.
From season 1 until now, Jon Snow’s character has evolved from being merely a bastard to the natural heir to the Iron Throne to a genuine challenger after we discover his real name is actually Aegon Targaryen. He has also died and been resurrected during this time.
At the forefront of the fight against the Night King and the army of the dead, Jon Snow knows that if he prevails, he would only have his half sister Daneyarys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister (if they both survive) to oppose him in winning the Game of Thrones.
It’s fair to say that Jon Snow has overcome many obstacles, including death, to get to this position. He has been Warden of the North, King in the North and Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch and now the Game of Thrones odds would suggest he has a decent chance of finally sitting on the Iron Throne.
Also known as “Khaleesi”, the “Breaker of Chains” and “Mother of Dragons”, Daenerys has earned many titles on her journey from an orphan in Dragonstone to one of the main Iron Throne contenders.
With an army of Unsullied, two dragons, Jon Snow’s army from the North and the Knights of the Veil – Daenerys knows that if she can help defeat the Night King she can stake her rightful claim to the throne. She has conquered everything she has set her mind to up to this point and will no doubt play a pivotal role in the final outcome of season 8.

Tyrion Lannister (10.360*)
The hand to Queen Daenerys, Tyrion finds himself in the mix to sit on the Iron Throne. He has shown resilience, intelligence and been very lucky to make it this far but it’s no surprise to see him as one of the favourites in Pinnacle’s Game of Thrones betting market.
Should his Queen fall in battle, bettors may choose to opt with the diminutive Tyrion to take over Daenerys’ forces and lead them to victory, which would see him sit on the Iron Thorne.
The Night King (10.470*)
As the leader of the white walkers, the army of the dead and with a dragon at his disposal, the Night King has all the weapons and resources at his disposal to defeat the living resistance and decimate everyone in his path to win the Game of Thrones.
Season 7 ended in ominous fashion with the Night King acquiring a dragon (Viserion) that was resurrected afrer being killed in a battle with Daenerys. This dragon has since created an enormous hole in the once impenetrable Wall to enable the Night King’s entire army to march towards the Kings Landing. Given all that happened, bettors might be surprised to see the Night King as low as fifth in the Game of Thrones odds.
- Can the Night King previal? Bet now.
Sansa Stark (12.150*)
The Lady of Winterfell has galvanised all the Northern houses as well as the Knights of the Veil to join the fight against the Night King, and if her half brother Jon Snow were to fall in battle, Sansa, already a princess in her own right and wife of Tyrion Lannister, would be able to make a viable claim t the Iron Throne.
Cersi Lannister (16.920*)
Cersi who currently sits on the Iron Throne has an army of her own to combat the threat of the Night King, as well as her living rivals. In season 7, she declares that she will help the fight against the Night King and join forces with Jon, Daenerys and the living in a joint effort to defeat the army of the dead.
Game of Thrones is notorious for severely unexpected plot twists, it would be naïve to completely rule anyone out at this point.
However, in secrecy with her brother Jamie, she plans to double cross her living rivals once the Night King is defeated to be able to claim the Iron Throne once and for all.
Cersi has been instrumental throughout the series and her actions should play a pivotal role on who ends up on the Iron Throne – even if it means it doesn’t end up being her. There is a case to made for the remaining 24 participants in this market, and judging by the unpredictable nature of the series so far, it would not be beyond the realms of possibilities for some of the outsiders like Gendry (20.480*), Samwell Tarly (28.220*) and Brienne of Tarth (77.390*) to sit on the Iron Throne by the end of season 8.
