After a hugely disappointing result last time out Napoli take on Torino needing a win to keep their title challenge alive.
Kalidou Koulibaly’s late winner against Juventus gave the Neapolitans hope in the race for the Scudetto. Just a week later the Senegalese centre-back’s early red card against Fiorentina cost Napoli dearly against Fiorentina, seriously damaging their title hopes.
After going down to ten men Napoli managed just one attempt from inside the Fiorentina penalty area whilst giving up 13 to their opponents. This was most likely because of Fiorentina’s man advantage rather than any superiority over Napoli, but the second-place side have not been at their best in their recent matches.
Prior to the Fiorentina fixture Napoli endured a period of stuttering form despite going undefeated in seven games. That run saw the Neopolitan’s dominant early season form desert them. They have won by a margin of two or more goals just once in their last nine games.
Torino have had a decidedly average season and sit tenth in Serie A. They have lost their last two fixtures and are certainly a step down in quality from Fiorentina.
Last season’s leading scorer Andrea Belotti has failed to score consistently this campaign. He is currently on a five-game goal drought and has struggled to score the goals Torino needed to challenge for the European places.
Napoli possess Serie A’s second-best defensive record. Even with Koulibaly absent the Torino attack could struggle to create opportunities against a team that concedes an average of just 0.74 goals per game.
Napoli vs. Torino: Where is the value?
Napoli’s energetic attack has been relatively subdued in recent weeks which, combined with Torino’s troubles in attack suggests a potentially low-scoring game. Under 3.5 goals to be scored is available at 1.775* and should provide value if both teams continue their current form.
Likewise Napoli have won just a single game by a margin of greater than one goal in their past nine games. Torino should be able to avoid a heavy defeat so backing them on the +2.25 handicap at 1.595* could be a sensible move.
