Osasuna vs. Sevilla predictions

Sevilla ended last season in fourth place, qualifying for the Champions League, although Julen Lopetegui’s men might be wondering what they missed out on. Although they proved to be a very tough team to beat last season, they drew 11 of their last 18 games in the season to fall away from title contention.

Osasuna will want to improve their head-to-head record against Sevilla, having failed to beat them at home since 2013, while Sevilla have also won each of the last five meetings between the two sides.

Real Valladolid vs. Villarreal predictions

Real Valladolid

Villarreal enjoyed a great run through to the Champions League semi-finals last season, although their European exertions may have had a detrimental impact on their domestic campaign as they finished in seventh place in La Liga.

Unai Emery’s men only won five of their last 12 matches in La Liga. They open the new season against a promoted Real Valladolid side who have a wretched recent record against Villarreal, losing four of their last five meetings.

Barcelona vs. Rayo Vallecano predictions

Rayo Vallecano

Barcelona enter their first full season with Xavi as manager and will be hoping to challenge for silverware once more. They have made some eye-catching signings in the summer window with Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski looking to spearhead their attack while Raphinha will try and provide the ammunition from the wing. Under Xavi last season, they enjoyed a four-month unbeaten run in La Liga but will be wary of Rayo Vallecano, having lost both La Liga fixtures to them last season.

Valencia vs. Girona predictions

Too many draws last season meant Valencia were a long way off the pace in the race for a European qualification place in La Liga. Los Che drew 15 of their 38 matches and laboured to ninth place – the third season in a row they have finished outside the top four.

Girona earned promotion last season and travel to the Mestalla for their opener. It has been three years since Girona last competed in La Liga but they did manage to sneak a 1-0 victory the last time they faced Valencia away from home in 2018.

Almeria vs. Real Madrid predictions

Real Madrid

Defending champions Real Madrid are expected to challenge for the title once more and their first game is away to newly promoted Almeria. Carlo Ancelotti's side were top from November 21 onwards and lost only four league matches all season, while they also won the Champions League. Almeria are playing top-flight football for the first time since 2015 and although they had the best defensive record in the second tier last season, this will be a much tougher test.
