EPL game of the week: Arsenal vs. Tottenham

EPL game of the week: Arsenal vs. Tottenham
Tottenham are travelling to North London this weekend to face rivals Arsenal at the Emirates in the highlight match of week 11. Arsenal are unbeaten in all competitions since the opening day of the season and are facing a Tottenham side that has drawn their last three EPL matches. Is another draw the most likely outcome? Read on to find out.

The first North London derby of the 2016/17 Premier League season comes at a very intriguing moment in the title race. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are separated by just three points at the top of the table, and defeat for Mauricio Pochettino’s team would create a six-point gap between themselves and the other contenders. The form guide and recent history between the two teams suggest the match will end in a draw, currently priced with Pinnacle at 3.64*.

Both teams have scored in 36 of their last 40 combined matches in all competitions and each of the previous five North London derbies.

The main reason for this is that neither team seems capable of losing. Spurs have now gone ten matches undefeated and Arsenal have gone nine, with just one league defeat in twenty matches combined in the league this season.

Spurs have been looking cagey in recent weeks (drawing three matches in a row) and will most likely stick to conservative tactics at the Emirates. They will hope their resolute defending will stifle the Gunners.

Both teams are expected to score. They have done so in 36 of their last 40 combined matches in all competitions and each of the previous five North London derbies. Alexis Sanchez is in superb form for the hosts and seems likely to break through a defence looking weaker in Toby Alderweireld’s absence, whilst Spurs welcome back Harry Kane – scorer of four goals in four games against Arsenal - who is expected to start on the bench.

This match should be very congested in the middle of pitch as both teams like to press high and control the tempo. However, it seems likely that – in such a tight title race – neither will want to gamble too far forward and risk a damaging defeat.

Last season’s results were 2-2 at White Hart Lane and 1-1 at the Emirates; a score draw seems very likely. If you still believe in a clear winner, Arsenal to win is currently available at 2.09* and Spurs at 3.76*.
