Borussia Dortmund vs. Sevilla predictions

Borussia Dortmund

First leg score: Sevilla 2 (Suso 7’, De Jong 84’) – Borussia Dortmund 3 (Dahoud 19’, Haaland 27’ 43’)

Borussia Dortmund are expected to complete the job and cement their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a home victory against Sevilla. Dortmund have not reached the quarter-finals since 2017, although talisman Erling Haaland’s fine form in the competition has exhibited no signs of letting up and he has now netted 20 goals in 17 Champions League matches.

Sevilla’s first-leg loss was a rare blip during a run of 10 wins in 12 games that they have enjoyed across all competitions. They kept a clean sheet in three of their last four away wins, although they also have not scored more than two goals in an away fixture in 2021.

Juventus vs. FC Porto predictions

FC Porto

First leg score: Porto 2 (Taremi 2’, Marega 46’) – Juventus 1 (Chiesa 82’)

Juventus were defeated by Porto in arguably the biggest shock among the first leg matches, but they are predicted to exact revenge in Turin. The hosts have reached at least the quarter-finals in four of the last six seasons, and Cristiano Ronaldo will be eyeing up his 15th Champions League goal for the Italian champions.

Porto turned in a clinical and disciplined performance to emerge victorious from the opening leg, highlighting their ability to frustrate the competition’s bigger names. The visitors have been defensively solid in this season’s tournament, and have now only conceded one goal in their last six Champions League fixtures.

Liverpool vs. RB Leipzig predictions

RB Leipzig

First leg score: RB Leipzig 0 – Liverpool 2 (Salah 53’, Mane 58’)

Liverpool shook off recent disappointing domestic form to overcome Leipzig in Budapest, and the market favours them to repeat the feat at Anfield. The hosts have been consistently strong performers in European competitions under Jurgen Klopp, reaching the final in three of their four continental campaigns during his stint at the club.

While Leipzig have earned wins over the likes of PSG and Manchester United in this season’s tournament, an unusually sloppy performance proved their undoing in the first leg. The German outfit are currently entangled in a title race in the Bundesliga and following their home defeat, their priority may switch to domestic competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Barcelona predictions

Paris Saint-Germain

First leg score: Barcelona 1 (Messi 27’ (pen)) – Paris Saint-Germain 4 (Mbappe 32’ 65’ 85’, Kean 70’)

A masterclass performance from Kylian Mbappe led PSG to an emphatic victory over Barcelona at the Nou Camp and sparing an unprecedented disaster from a home perspective, their quarter-finals berth is virtually assured. PSG won five of their last six home Champions League matches, keeping a clean sheet in every victory.

Barcelona’s first-leg humbling was perhaps the nadir of a broadly underwhelming season, and their main worry could be the fact that this might be Lionel Messi’s final Champions League appearance playing for the club. They not have failed to reach the quarter-finals of the competition since 2007.

Manchester City vs. Borussia Monchengladbach predictions

Manchester City

Borussia Monchengladbach

First leg score: Borussia Monchengladbach 0 – Manchester City 2 (Silva 29’, Jesus 65’)

Manchester City are predicted to beat Borussia Monchengladbach in what the market is rating as the most one-sided contest among the second legs. City’s 4-1 Premier League victory over Wolves extended their ongoing winning streak in all competitions to a remarkable 21 matches, and they are also currently outright favourites to win the Champions League at Pinnacle.

Perhaps affected by the news that manager Marco Rose will leave the club for Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, Gladbach were dominated across the board in the first leg, mustering just three attempts on goal and 40% possession. Their top scorer Lars Stindl has netted just two goals in all competitions since the turn of the year.

Real Madrid vs. Atalanta BC predictions

Real Madrid

Atalanta BC

First leg score: Atalanta 0 – Real Madrid 1 (Mendy 85’)

Real Madrid were forced to rely on a late Ferland Mendy stunner to best an Atalanta team that were reduced to 10 men 17 minutes into the first leg, but the market still expects them to also win the second. Despite this, Atalanta may be buoyed by the fact that Madrid have won only three of their last nine home fixtures in the Champions League.

Atalanta have struggled to maintain their habitually attacking approach that entertained in last season’s tournament into 2020/21, and their goals per game ratio has almost halved. Perhaps more worryingly, they have also only kept a solitary clean sheet in the Champions League since the start of last season.

Bayern Munich vs. Lazio predictions

Bayern Munich

First leg score: Lazio 1 (Correa 49’) – Bayern Munich 4 (Lewandowski 9’, Musiala 24’, Sane 42’, Acerbi (og) 47’)

Defending champions Bayern Munich are not predicted to encounter any significant difficulty in continuing their bid to reclaim the trophy, especially after a highly impressive first-leg away win over Lazio. Hans-Dieter Flick’s side are now undefeated in 18 Champions League matches and are this season’s top scorers in the competition with 22 goals.

Lazio were taught a harsh lesson in their first Champions League knockout match since 2000, illustrating their recent lack of experience in the tournament. Having averaged just under 1.5 goals per game in Serie A this season, their attacking options do not appear primed to trouble a Bayern defence that has occasionally looked shaky this season.

Chelsea vs. Atletico Madrid predictions

Atletico Madrid

First leg score: Atletico Madrid 0 – Chelsea 1 (Giroud 68’)

Chelsea enjoyed their most significant victory yet under Thomas Tuchel by beating Atletico Madrid in the first leg, and the market suggests they will follow this by earning a quarter-finals spot. The hosts have been one of the most defensively impressive teams in this season’s tournament, conceding just two goals while racking up five clean sheets in their seven matches thus far.

Atletico were uncharacteristically insipid on February 23, failing to offer any significant attacking threat to the extent that they did not manage a single shot on target. Players returning from injury and suspension should mean that Diego Simeone has a stronger team at his disposal at Stamford Bridge, although their chances of progression will directly rely upon a much improved performance.
