League leaders Barcelona welcome second placed Atletico Madrid to the Camp Nou in a game that will have a serious impact on the title race.

Barcelona’s eternal rivals Real Madrid have been unable to keep pace at the top of La Liga, leaving Atletico as the Catalan’s only serious rival for the title.

The two sides share similar defensive records but in attack Lionel Messi and Barcelona have been dominant this season. Atleti have scored 45 goals in La Liga compared to a league high 69 for Barca.

In order to challenge Barcelona at the top of the table Atleti have been highly efficient. The Madrid side have won over half of their La Liga matches to nil, making the most of every goal they have scored. They are now just five points behind Barca at the top of the table.

Things have been looking more promising in the Atleti attack recently though. Antoine Griezmann has been in outstanding form lately with seven goals in his past two appearances. The Frenchman suits Atelti’s style as he is an exceptional finisher who will make the most of his opportunities.

Griezmann scored those seven goals from an expected goals total of 3.64 and can count on the similarly efficient Diego Costa to partner him in attack.

Barcelona are not short of attacking weapons of their own. Atletico’s other star performer this season, goalkeeper Jan Oblak, will have to be at his best to secure a positive result away against the title favourites.

Atletico have not beaten Barca in a league match since 2009 but have managed two wins in the Champions League in that time. They will need a win here to mount a realistic title challenge so it will be interesting to see how Diego Simeone’s team approach the game.

Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid: Where is the value?

Atletico Madrid face a daunting challenge this weekend as failing to win will realistically end their title challenge. The odds suggest they are not expected to secure this vital result, but Barcelona's surprise draw last time out against Las Palmas will give Simeone's men hope.

It would certainly be foolish to discount Atleti. They are efficient at both ends of the pitch and have frustrated Barcelona before, especially after taking the lead.

The first goal will be vital. Atletico have only won once from a losing position in La Liga this season so, should they concede first, they will be unlikely to get the win they need.

However, with the form of Griezmann they are more than capable of going ahead. A lead will let them dictate the game and Atleti know they have to score to keep their title hopes alive so odds of 1.806* on them to score over 0.75 goals in the match seem generous.

Diego Simeone is adept at managing games and a quiet start to the match will suit Atleti. The Madrid side are skilled at striking late in games so a 0-0 scoreline at the half would be seen as a positive.

The Atletico Madrid +0.25 first half handicap is available at 1.980* and could offer value if Simeone’s side are able to manage the game effectively.
