The teams
Dynamo Kiev
Victory on matchday six ended a 16-year knockout stage drought for the Dynamo Kiev. The 1998-99 semi-finalists and current squad share one key component, Serhiy Rebrov. Alongside Shevcheko, manager Rebrov was part of the legendary strike force, which struck fear into European opposition until both departed for the major European leagues.
Whilst the current team may not hold the same sort of attacking threat as their predecessors, they are by no means pushovers. The Ukrainian champions conceded just four times in the group stage, keeping four clean sheets in the process.
Odds of 4.050 to advance to the next round may not sit favourably with the Eastern Europeans, but a first-leg home fixture could give hope. Beaten just once at home all season, hedgers may see this as the ideal tie to trade on.
Man City
Now into their fifth season as a Champions League entrant, the quarter-finals still remain an unknown quantity for Manchester City. With a track record that reads group stage exit, group stage exit, last 16 exit, last 16 exit, the natural progression would be quarter-final soccer this season.
Despite possessing a squad of enviable proportions, the Citizens season has continually been threatened by injuries to key players. Sergio Aguero’s recently vacated spot in the physio room has been taken by another key player, in shape of Kevin De Bruyne. Whereas, Vincent Kompany’s well documented fitness problems remains a huge issue for Manuel Pellegrini.
The English side remain 1.278 favourites to make the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time, but key injuries will need to be kept at a minimum for bettors to find any real value in them at that price.

Odds movement
A lot have things have changed since the teams were first drawn in December, injuries, form, etc… but has anything significantly affected the odds?
A 2-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal on December 21st may have had bettors and traders alike doubting Man City's big game credentials; their odds drifted from 1.287 to 1.302 the following day.
Prices remained this way until January 6th, where the English side moved into 1.278 to qualify, with no fresh injuries, transfers or news to report on this date, League Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Everton may have been an explanation. Bettors could have viewed this as an opportunity for Man City to focus purely on the Champions League first leg on February 24th, without the additional pressure of a League Cup final on February 28th.
