System Overview

The Enhanced Alert!Node serves as the Chassis Management Controller (ChMC) for the PDSi ComputeNode family of CompactPCI systems. Accessible through the rear of the chassis, it incorporates an IPMI-compliant Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) to monitor and control PICMG 2.9 compliant devices. In addition to the cooling subsystem detection and power monitoring & control available with the standard Alert!Node, the Enhanced Alert!Node uses discrete signals to individually control power, as well as monitor the presence and health, of each cPCI slot in a system. Remote connectivity is provided through either a serial console or Ethernet supporting RMCP, SNMP PET Trap generation, and Telnet for CLI access. Local alarm indication is provided by critical/major/minor LEDs and dry relay contact closures. User may remotely reset (reboot) any slot in the chassis, regardless if the board supports IPMI reset command. This capability will often restore operational service.

The Enhanced Alert!Node can also act as a Peripheral Management controller (PM), allowing a CompactPCI board with BMC functionality to serve as the ChMC. In this configuration, the Enhanced Alert!Node provides the status of all monitored systems to the alternate ChMC.

Designed as a hot-swappable alarm card, the Enhanced Alert!Node does not occupy a CompactPCI slot, front or rear. Because it is a passive out-of-band management entity, it will not affect system operation if it fails, allowing it to be safely replaced in a live system.

Please contact your local PDSi representative to discuss your specific program requirements.
