System Overview

PDSi's CP2X60/2X80 cPSB Rear Transition Module (RTM) brings all the functionality of the popular PICMG 2.16 Compact Packet Switched Backplane (cPSB) to Sun's NetraTM CP2060/2080 and CP2160/2180 boards, improves performance, and offers a greater degree of flexibility, scalability and reliability.

Designed in the standard cPCI 6U form factor, the powerful Netra CP2060/2080 and CP2160/2180 is powered by an UltraSPARCTM IIe processor. Essential features include hot swap and dual Ethernet, two PIM slots for customizable I/O, two USB ports available (one rear and one through PIM), two serial ports and full Solaris™ 8/9 support. The CP2160/2180 allows communications and network equipment providers to build customized highly available carrier-grade systems.

With literally, a "flip of a switch" on PDSi's CP2X60/2X80 cPSB RTM, the customer can change the functionality of the Netra CP2X60/2X80 from the standard cPCI functionality to a cPSB board, connecting the Ethernet ports to the backplane. The cPSB architecture enables the use of proven TCP/IP based Ethernet networks to be used in an infrastructure that eliminates cabling and embeds the switching fabric with the system at the board level.

The CP2X60/2X80 cPSB RTM has mainly passive components. However, some power from the backplane is provided to PIM carriers A and B to the I2C EEPROM.
