System Overview
The ComputeNode 4U Quad Domain (Node4U) is a carrier-grade CompactPCI® solution developed for the communications and embedded controls marketplace. Like all of PDSi’s products, the Node4U has been designed to be compliant with Telcordia NEBS Level 3 GR-1089-CORE and GR-63-CORE, for installation in the Central Office. It can be integrated with a range of options to meet your specific needs. The ComputeNode 4U Quad Domain features PDSi’s compact horizontal design, with a full eight-slot, four domain cPCI backplane for use with both front and rear transition cards.
The ComputeNode 4U Quad Domain’s eight slots are divided into four domains, each of which has an independent system slot controlling the peripheral slot directly above it. Functionally, this is like having a stack of four separate 1U units that share power, cooling, air filtering and monitoring/alarming capability.
The Node4U uses a load-sharing 2+1 redundant power supply configuration, and is designed with a system alarm card that provides monitoring, control, status and alarming for the system.
PDSi’s ComputeNode 4U Quad Domain contains the Enhanced Alert!Node, an integral system alarm card that provides remote connectivity through either a serial console or Ethernet. It monitors the status of the cPCI slots, fans & fan trays, power supply input & output voltages, temperature, hard drive (if present) and three dry contacts. The cPCI slots, power supplies, dry contacts and four faceplate LEDs may be controlled remotely.
The Enhanced Alert!Node also monitors and controls PICMG 2.9-compliant CompactPCI devices. Access to the Enhanced Alert!Node is via Ethernet or serial connection. This alarm has the capability to individually power cycle any of the eight slots in the Node4U. The capability enables remote rebooting and typical restoration of service to any slot, individually without impact to other slots. Because the enhanced Alert!Node does not require the use of a cPCI slot, all eight cPCI slots remain available for processors and I/O. The enhanced Alert!Node is designed to be a RFU (Field- Replaceable Unit) and will not affect the operation of the system if removed.
