System Overview
The Alert!Node: Smart Node Alarm Card serves as the Chassis Management Controller (ChMC) for the PDSi Node2U, Node3U, or Node4U systems and is accessible through the rear of the chassis. The Alert!Node incorporates an IPMI-compliant Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) to monitor PICMG 2.9 compliant CompactPCI® devices, as well as monitors the power and cooling subsystems. Remote connectivity is provided through either an RS-232 serial console or Ethernet supporting Telnet and Remote Management Control Protocol (RMCP), also referred to as “IPMI over LAN.”
The Alert!Node also provides local alarm indications: critical/major/minor LED indicators and dry relay contact closures. The Alert!Node can also act as a Peripheral Management controller (PM) such that a CompactPCI® board with BMC functionality can serve as the ChMC. In this configuration, the Alert!Node provides the status of the power and cooling systems to the alternate ChMC.
Specifications
Designed as a hot-swappable alarm card for the PDSi NodeXU product family, the Alert!Node does not occupy a CompactPCI® slot, front or rear, and is a passive out-of-band management entity that does not affect system operation if it fails, thus providing the ability to be safely replaced in a live system.
As with all PDSi products, the Alert!Node combines expert Rapid Product Realization design, branding and testing services for a complete SKU utilizing customer-specified third party components or Commercial off-the-shelf products, greatly reducing time-to-market.
